white wine : Determined to catch up…white winewhite wine I am determined, and if I have to do it (blog), then I quit, although it is now 10:25. I have to be up at 5:45 to attend a car boot sale on behalf of B’s (three year old’s) playgroup tomorrow morning. This is my third World Cup with G (partner) and I can honestly sat it gives me something to do during the month of June. So Saturday – what to cook? Appointment of South Korea, Greece, Argentina, Nigeria, England and USA. Fish and chips is therefore the obvious choice, but no, a glutton for punishment, I decide on Nigeria. Only joking. On Friday dash to the supermarket I took some burgers that the idea is to make the burger and chips – it is a U.S. specialty is not it? They happen to have one of these two for the price of three special offers that always sucks me in and I bought some lamb burgers “to keep in the freezer.” I found that a recipe while surfing the web manically, that is not really reading, just panic and try to ward off two small children. Here is the link to the Greek Lamb Burgers with Cucumber Sauce: allrecipes//Recipe/greek-lamb-feta-burgers-with-cucumber-sauce/Detail.aspx Ok, so I bought burgers, but boy am I glad! B (three years old) decided it was Bunny’s birthday this morning. (Bunny is an over-loved stuffed toy rabbit). Thus came an entire morning making fairy cakes, wrapping presents (toys from the toybox), making a map and blow up balloons. I still can not quite believe how we all got hooked in. Bunny also birthday lunch of beans on toast (Nigerian specialty not you know) and fairy cake (decorated with the England flag in honor of the match this evening at G’s request). The finished product of the cake with continuous white glaze – I always add too much water for glace icing – decorated with running red icing in a cross pattern was mildly unsavory. I explained to G, there wrists were sliced in the preparation of these cakes, but that only adds to the feeling of nausea when we lit the light for Bunny to blow out … We all survived, “England” fairy cakes and escape to a mall to buy various birthday presents – for the “real” birthdays. I saw an M & S food and realize I still have no feta and red wine vinegar for tonight’s recipe, so make a straight line. It is only when I come back to the car several hours going from M & S that I realize that D (a year old) while in her buggy has successfully Shoplifted a bag of dry roasted chilli flavored peanuts. I do not have time to consider guilt, shock, and certainly no time to return to the store, so instead load peanuts and children in the car and dash home before their stomachs start to complain … Have not manage to get Retsina wine to accompany the Greek recipe, but replaced Heineken beer as an aperitif (it’s what G and I always drank when holiday in Greece – it was something of a shock to discover it is brewed in Holland …) Anyway, the meal goes down well, shame on scoring … I am determined, and if I have to do it (blog), then I quit, although it is now 10:25.
